[Hiroshima Night View] Sightseeing, a superb spot with a panoramic view of Hiroshima! Do you know what Ougonzan is?

History of Ougonzan

Ougonzan was the site of Niho Castle built on its summit during the Muromachi period (1336-1573). It is also a place with a very old battle history.

Kannonji Temple, located on the north side of Mt. Ougonzan, is said to have been built by Mori as a family temple for Miura Mototada, who was assigned to guard the castle of Niho Castle. The temple’s mountain name was “Ougonzan,” and it is said that the name “Ougonzan” first appeared at this time.

There is another theory that the name “Mt. Ougonzan” came about because a fire was lit at the top of the mountain for the safety of boats going offshore, and the fire was so golden that it burned the sky, or because the color of the evening glow over the island appeared golden.

Today, there is no castle on the summit, but an observatory.

Charms of Ougonzan

Ougonzan offers a spectacular 360-degree view of the city of Hiroshima. During the day, it is a popular place for citizens to relax, and at night, many people, including those from outside the prefecture, gather here to see the night view.
Many couples also come here.

The best part is the beautifully illuminated Hiroshima Ohashi Bridge and Kaita Ohashi Bridge at night from the observation deck!
It is very beautiful and relaxing to see!
