About Peace Memorial Park

Peace Memorial Park is a city park in Hiroshima that was established to commemorate the victims of the atomic bombing and to pray for world peace.

The place where the Peace Memorial Park is located used to be the central downtown area of Hiroshima City.However, on August 6, 1945, during World War II, the city was destroyed by the first atomic bomb ever used by mankind, and the town disappeared.

After that, the Hiroshima Peace Memorial City Plan promoted the construction of the Peace Memorial Park and opened it at this location.

In the Peace Memorial Park, there are the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum and various monuments with wishes for peace.

Every year on August 6, the Peace Memorial Ceremony is held at Peace Memorial Park, and is attended by atomic bomb survivors, bereaved families, representatives of international organizations such as the United Nations, and the European Union.
